A Joint Project with Ohio's Lorain, Medina and Wayne Counties

From the rolling hills of Amish Country, to the gentle slopes of Lake Erie, this tri-county region, just southwest of Cleveland, offers a variety of activities that families can explore to learn about the rural way of living.

Homemade ice cream, fresh from the dairy, scented geraniums, fresh strawberries and sweet corn, handmade crafts and meticulous gardens can be found on your journey through Fresh Ohio!, the counties of Lorain, Medina and Wayne.

This website will give you a start to discovering what the region has to offer. However, to fully appreciate the countryside we encourage you to explore and find your own favorites. Should you need more guidance, each visitors bureau has more detailed information regarding these particular attractions and others. Contact us for more Fresh Ohio! ideas.

WAYNE COUNTY ONE-DAY TOUR, ITINERARY #2

9:00am-10:15am
Our day begins at
Lehman's Hardware where Amish farmers shop for cookware, tools, non-electric lights, crockery, kegs and gas refrigerators--you can shop there too! Don't forget the shops at Millstreams Plaza directly across the parking lot from Lehman's.

10:30am-11:30am
Next stop,
Care-n-Share, a unique store with a special story. This store offers a great selection of handmade items all made by physically challenged people with special needs. We can arrange for a basket weaving and quilting demonstration for your group.

11:45am-12:15pm
Take a leisurely drive through Amish Country as you approach Wooster. We'll take a short stop in Apple Creek at Troyer's Home Pantry and take home a loaf of homemade bread, pie, cream sticks or other delicious baked goods.

12:30pm-1:30pm
Enjoy lunch this afternoon at one of our many fine restaurants, from Amish to fine dining.

1:45pm-3:15pm
No visit is complete without a stop at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) - The Ohio State University. (The largest research institute of its kind in the U.S.) The Secrest Arboretum is located on 85 acres of rolling land and offers both the flora researcher and the plant enthusiast more than 2,000 species, varieties and cultivators of trees and shrubs for evaluation and viewing. The famous Rose Garden is a unique 2.7 acre garden featuring a collection of 1,500 plants representing 500 varieties of roses of antiquity, legend and romance.

3:30pm-5:00pm
The Wayne County Historical Society is another "must see" in Wayne County. Tour an 1815 homestead, general mercantile store, an 1873 schoolhouse, log cabin, outdoor bake oven and many unique and diverse exhibits.
